Just want to reply to this quote before I reply to everyone else. I think someone (by that I mean a modder) should seriously consider this since I'd hate to play a Roman faction that is doing well and yet field crappy looking armies on the battlefield. The more economically sound either one is, the better their units appear technologically and in design on the field. Shouldn't the Western Empire's units improve in design and concept if they were able to repel the barbarian invasions and re-build/reform the state of their economy/armies? I think that there should be a mod for the Romans where their state economically is reflected on their units. Since we're all going to be playing a-historically on this game, despite it being based on real history. I know they had some pretty awesome knights & cataphracts, not to mention horse archers.

This meant that their armies varied distinctly between one another and the Byzantines had some pretty awesome units some wearing gold-like plate/chainmail armour.

I'm pretty sure that while in true history the Western Empire suffered, the Eastern Empire flourished. I know the game hasn't yet come out, but I'm already wondering if we can mod the units or if someone will mod the Roman units.
